• At St James, we champion the importance of Mental Health.
  • We believe mental wellbeing is just as vital as physical health for every child.

  • A child's mental health directly impacts their:

    • Educational success

    • Social relationships

    • Overall physical wellbeing

  • Supporting mental health = supporting the whole child.

  • We're committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Meet the Team

At St James, we have our very own Mental Health Ambassadors!
These friendly helpers work hard to make sure everyone feels safe and happy talking about their feelings. They help show us that it’s okay to have big emotions and remind us that no one should ever feel embarrassed or alone. We’re all here to support each other!

We are delighted to be part of the South Tyneside Healthy Minds Team, who support our pupils with their mental health, anxieties and general worries. Lucy, our wonderful Healthy Minds Lead, works with individuals, pairs and small groups of children to support them.

HMT at St James

  • The Healthy Minds Team regularly present assemblies to our children in school. They talk about who they were and what they do. They chat to the children about how they can help themselves to achieve good mental health and introduced some exercises they can try, like the 5-finger breathing exercise.
  • Emily our school consultant from Healthy Minds Team regularly attends our Parents Evenings
  • Emily will presents  workshops for parents in school based around anxiety and how to support your child with fears and worries. All of our parents and carers are welcome to come along and meet Emily in school during these sessions.
